Bitmine accumulates 6.03 million ETH, reaching 4.9% of ethereum supply
Bitmine Immersion Technologies disclosed a 6.03 million ETH treasury valued at $12.9 billion as of October 11, representing 4.9% of Ethereum’s total supply and positioning the firm 76,000 tokens short of its 5% acquisition target. For institutional investors, the near-completion of this goal, combined with Bitmine’s weekly purchase discipline since June 2025 and staking yield of $336 million annually, signals a structural shift in how large crypto treasuries anchor institutional portfolios and generate yield.
- Bitmine holds 6,028,946 ETH, equal to 4.9% of Ethereum’s 122.1 million token supply, 76,054 tokens below the 5% threshold it calls the “Alchemy of 5%.”
- The company has staked 5,067,309 ETH (84% of holdings) generating $336 million in annualized revenue, with potential for $400 million annually once fully staked.
- Bitmine added $16.2 billion in total crypto, cash and other holdings including $612 million in cash, 214 Bitcoin, and stakes in Beast Industries and Eightco Holdings.
- 4.9% Bitmine’s Ethereum stake as percentage of total supply
- $336M Annualized staking revenue on currently staked Ethereum holdings
- 6.03M Ether tokens held versus 6.105 million needed for 5% milestone
Bitmine Immersion Technologies announced holdings of 6,028,946 ETH valued at $12.9 billion in a statement on October 12, following the acquisition of 12,532 tokens over the previous seven days at an average price of $2,544 per ether. The position now sits 76,000 tokens short of the company’s publicly declared 5% target, which Chairman Tom Lee has framed as the “Alchemy of 5%” and described as achievable within weeks at the current purchase pace.
Weekly purchases sustain 15-month accumulation without pause
Bitmine has executed 73 consecutive weekly purchases of ether since launching its treasury strategy on June 30, 2025, according to Lee, a purchase cadence that has not been matched by any other publicly traded company holding digital assets.
The firm bought approximately $32 million of ether in the week ending October 11 and $41 million in the prior week, demonstrating sustained capital deployment even as it approaches its stated ceiling.
The consistency reveals a structural commitment independent of price volatility. Ether declined 10 percent during the first nine months of 2026, while Bitmine’s share price fell only 3 percent, suggesting the market has priced in the treasury’s defensive characteristics relative to spot ether exposure.
Lee noted that ether outperformed the S&P 500 by 6,832 basis points during the third quarter alone despite macro headwinds including Fed tightening and rising oil prices.
Staking infrastructure generates $336 million annually from 84% of holdings
Bitmine has staked 5,067,309 tokens through its MAVAN validator network and external staking partners, positioning the company to generate $336 million in annualized rewards at the current 2.61 percent seven-day yield.
Should the entire treasury be staked after reaching the 5% target, Lee projects annualized revenue would reach $400 million, creating a recurring cash flow stream independent of token price appreciation.
MAVAN, launched in 2026 as the Made in America Validator Network, was originally built to support Bitmine’s own Ethereum infrastructure but has expanded to serve institutional investors, custodians and ecosystem partners.
This dual function positions Bitmine not merely as a holder but as an infrastructure provider, collecting protocol rewards while building staking relationships that could generate ancillary revenue through custody and operational services.
The staking yield also establishes a benchmark for Bitmine’s perpetual preferred stock, BMNP, which trades on the NYSE and carries a 9.56 percent coupon.
Treasury completion timing remains open as weekly purchases near ceiling
Lee stated in an October 7 chairman’s message that approximately 100,000 tokens remain to be acquired, though the mathematical shortfall calculated from disclosed holdings stands at 76,054 tokens. At the current weekly purchase rate of 12,500 to 20,000 tokens, the target would be achieved within four to eight weeks, pending capital availability and market conditions.
Lee has announced that purchases will cease once the 5% threshold is reached.
The company’s total asset base of $16.2 billion provides substantial dry powder for continued acquisitions. Holdings include $612 million in cash and marketable securities, 214 bitcoin, an $85 million stake in Eightco Holdings (NASDAQ: ORBS), which provides exposure to OpenAI, and a $180 million position in Beast Industries.
Bitmine ranks as the world’s largest Ethereum treasury and the second-largest crypto treasury overall, behind Strategy Inc., which holds approximately 848,000 bitcoin.
The CCS read. We read the treasury completion as a potential inflection point for Ethereum supply dynamics. Once Bitmine locks in 5%, the removal of roughly $32 million per week in purchasing demand will shift to passive staking yield. For ETH holders with institutional exposure, Bitmine’s precedent, a public company treating Ethereum as a permanent, yield-generating reserve, establishes a template other treasuries and ETFs are likely to copy, tightening long-term supply.
Watch for Bitmine’s announcement of the final 76,000 token purchase, which Lee’s purchase cadence suggests will occur between late October and early November 2026. That milestone will test whether Bitmine’s BMNP preferred shares, currently trading at $99.53 after a 24 percent gain since June issuance, maintain their premium valuation once the primary accumulation strategy reaches its declared endpoint.
