Strive, the bitcoin treasury firm run by CEO Matt Cole, spent $169 million last week to acquire 2,000 BTC at an average price of $84,422 per coin, the third-largest single purchase in the company’s history. The buy pushes Strive’s total holdings to 29,462 BTC and comes as larger rival Strategy has slowed its own weekly accumulation to a fraction of that size.

  • Strive paid $169 million for 2,000 BTC at an average cost of $84,422 per bitcoin, disclosed in an 8-K reported by CryptoPotato.
  • Total holdings now stand at 29,462 BTC, built at an average acquisition cost between $90,400 and $90,700 per coin.
  • 61.5% of the capital raised for the purchase came from SATA, with warrants contributing $56.7 million.
  • 2,000 BTC Strive’s weekly buy, its third-largest ever behind two bigger deals
  • $84,422 average purchase price per coin, well below Strive’s $90,400 to $90,700 cost basis
  • 334 BTC Strategy’s weekly buy by comparison, under a sixth of Strive’s volume

Strive is a publicly traded bitcoin treasury company that accumulates BTC on its balance sheet as a corporate reserve asset, a strategy popularized by Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy). Cole disclosed the latest purchase in a post on X on Monday, October 5, 2026, alongside an 8-K filing covering key performance metrics through the third quarter of 2026.

Strive acquired 2,000 $BTC for $169M at an average cost of $84,422 per bitcoin, bringing total holdings to ₿29,462.

Purchase Dwarfs Prior Week and Ranks Behind Only Two Deals

Last week’s 2,000 BTC acquisition was significantly larger than Strive’s purchase the week before, and on-chain data place it as the third-biggest buy in the company’s history. The largest came not from an open-market purchase but from Strive’s merger with Semler Scientific, which brought in between 5,816 and 5,817 BTC worth roughly $675 million.

The company’s 2026 record for a direct purchase was 2,500 BTC, acquired for $185.2 million in late May and early June.

Strive’s average acquisition cost across its full 29,462 BTC position sits between $90,400 and $90,700 per coin, meaning last week’s $84,422 average price came in below the firm’s own cost basis. That gap suggests Strive is using price weakness to add to its position rather than chasing momentum, a pattern that echoes how Strategy has timed some of its own smaller recent buys.

Warrants Supply $56.7 Million as SATA Covers Most of the Raise

SATA provided 61.5% of the capital behind the purchase. Warrants generated an additional $56.7 million of the funding.

The financing mix matters for institutional investors tracking how bitcoin treasury companies fund accumulation without diluting shareholders through open-market stock sales. Strive’s 8-K filing, which also laid out key metrics through the third quarter of 2026, follows a disclosure pattern similar to Strategy’s own 8-K disclosing its $5.02 billion reserve, giving analysts a standardized way to compare treasury-company balance sheets.

Strategy’s Streak Hits Three Weeks but at a Fraction of the Size

Strategy, the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, extended its consecutive weekly purchase streak to three, but bought just 334 BTC in its latest round, less than a sixth of Strive’s 2,000 BTC haul. The divergence shows Strive accelerating its accumulation precisely as the market’s dominant holder has pulled back.

The CCS read. Strive’s willingness to buy below its own average cost basis points to a treasury strategy built around opportunistic entries rather than fixed-schedule accumulation. With Strategy’s pace slowing to double-digit weekly buys, Strive’s 2,000 BTC purchase signals a second major corporate buyer stepping up at exactly the moment the market’s largest holder has eased off.

Investors will watch whether Strive’s next 8-K filing, due with its full third-quarter 2026 results, shows the pace of SATA-funded purchases continuing or whether Strategy’s three-week streak resumes at higher volume.
