In this episode

Today on Blockchain Interviews, we speak with Ivy Qi the marketing director of Conflux Blockchain. Conflux is the State-of-the-Art public blockchain system that can achieve high TPS without sacrificing decentralization or safety. By delicately combining its unique and advanced algorithm with a novel structure——Tree Graph (TG), Conflux makes consensus no longer a performance bottleneck, thereupon solves a series of problems in the industrialization of public chains

Key takeaways
  • Conflux uses Proof of Work consensus combined with a Tree Graph algorithm to achieve 3,000-3,500 TPS without sacrificing security or decentralization.
  • The team consists of highly academic founders including Professor Long Fan from University of Toronto and Turing Award winner Andrew Yao as chief scientist.
  • Conflux testnet launched in April 2019 with 20,000 nodes, with mainnet planned for Q1 2020 around March.
  • Developers can use Solidity and EVM compatibility to migrate applications from Ethereum to Conflux with minimal friction.
  • Conflux coin will be mined after mainnet launch with pre-mined coins locked in genesis block, first release three months post-launch.

little bit about Conflux today first of all in your words what is the purpose and the vision of the conflux project in blockchain right okay so basically our contracts is APO W epic chain and what our vision mean you know what our vision is basically we aim to realize what a theorem cannot cannot realize that means we're trying to build a faster and

smarter a theorem or our project started us from a research project and during that clear that our core founder George Arthur long time realize that they cannot they can scale up the Nakamoto consensus which is the peak current consensus up 2030s which means you know this finding can bring up the overall performance of blockchain technology to another whole

whole new level and then you know they put the funding into an academic paper and then that data can tell me paper got a lot of attention zombie seized from professor andry oh yeah Turing Award winner himself and then and then you know the king decided to actually realize and commercialize defining instead of let it just sit on a sheet of paper that's great so Conflux

is looking for efficiency and scalability and I guess you could say it's very similar to etherium but if I heard you right you're using part of bitcoins codebase or something to make it more scalable is that is that correct regarding the consensus mechanic a consensus mechanism it's 2p o W it's same as Bitcoin any theorem we'll leave you is we organize our blogs

with another new algorithm which is called tree graph sorry about that no problem which which is called tree graph so by the trail of algorithm basically we can't work nice all the blocks all the concurrent blocks that means you know and there's no fat and no transaction will be discarded that is why we can we

can we can make the performance overall performance up to 3000 50s where Snoopy o W and the tree graph is an upgraded back structure the AG structure great and the goal of this is efficiency but without sacrificing safety decentralization or trustworthiness is the main value for this efficiency just from the tree graph the main value

of the efficiency of basically tree graph is the algorithm that enable us to upgrade the efficiency but in the meantime they we do prioritize the security of the whole network well complex can achieve is basically the same level of security as fit points six o'clock six o'clock and a theorem 30 block level of security okay now how

much time has been put into the development so far for the blockchain and when is the main net supposed to be released the project the project was kicked off from 2018 August there was last year and our past name was live and open source in April 2000 19 that was right almost half a year ago and our main that is about to launch q1 next

year around March great and can you talk a little bit about the team that started and is developing conflux blockchain and supporting it sure our founder is Professor long time he still a full-time assistant professor of university of toronto he graduated from team-wide out class and then he did his PhD in MIP and he is a two-time ioi gold medal winners and another

co-founder was a longtime professor Lopez classmate David Cho and he's also he's a co-winner of ACM if I'm not wrong as well so basically the party is consists of Professor long fan professor David Cho and our CTO looming he's from Microsoft Research Center he worked

there for more than 10 years and of course our chief scientist is Professor Andrew teaching Yao he's the only Chinese Turing Award winner he's he's the chief scientist also the port member of complex and that besides that basically all of our developer developers are you know gold medal winners from either a cm or ioi and then yeah mr. lin dajun

is leading our operation efforts he graduated from Brandis University he working Wall Street for almost ten years and before before doing conflux he was I don't remember so you went back in China he went back to China and then you know back in back in 2018 when they came when the project started and he joined

the team leading the fundraising and are the non technical operation part wow that's great and I read dr. long fan had an article out that said that and the conflux team is one of the most reliable blockchain teams what do you think he meant by that well basically our team is highly Demick and is high basically all of our team

well personally I think you know that's both a good thing and store the disadvantage especially in black trans field all of the King all of the team members don't have much experience in blunt and field beforehand drugs so we're fairly new in the space and basically all of them are highly endemic there's you there's you have there still have you know they're they're like with

other responsibilities in research in research or in the university for example are Harris research is still teaching a clip-clop equipped cryptographic class in picking University so you know yeah our team is a bit our chimney so sorry about that yeah well it sounds like you have a very

reliable team so that's great yeah and can you talk a little bit about the progression towards the main net you guys launch the test nut in April of this year and it sounds like you're not you haven't been rushing into it now what is going on between the test net launch and leading up to the main net what are the main things that you guys are focusing on right now prior

to the minute launch we you want to make sure that our network the main that is it's secure and ready so we deploy like twenty thousand nose on the test night basically we spend a lot of money on the test night itself and now we're still we're still working on you know the latest patents we are applying for several patents of his most

complex technology and we're we're doing all sorts of paths running all sorts of all sorts of experience experiments and tests on Technic and we are back back back to last month we rerun all during fantastic transactions in complex NetCast night and it takes us around 20 minutes to finish all the theorem

transactions so far up to now so another thing we're trying to do is we're still we're still working on our killed up your algorithm so and the powa algorithm is target to finish around January or end of December so after all of that yeah we're gonna do we're gonna do a larger scale experiment on the test night to make

sure everything's fine make sure the algorithm is working well and then we move to the mean that much that's great and how are you going to incentivize developers to develop gaps on conflux is it easy to develop is it an easy switch over from etherium or neo or yose how are you going to do that it is very now for now we support solidity and DBM we're fully stability

and EBM compatible so it would be very easy for it would be fairly straightforward for a theorem developers were just migrated onto complex work life and after the mini launch we're gonna support other the other language as well by the solidity and EVM but with always be there and yeah so and afterwards we're gonna have a cube Asian

Center to basically incentivizing and encourage all kinds of developers to try out contests to develop their applications on complex and besides that we do have a 3000 we do have a fairly up a size you know community right now we have we have like up to twenty twenty or thirty thousand community members were likely and that

number is it's expending you know as as contrast is getting one more attention so we encourage all of our community members to be the first batch of users of the dabs complex okay and when you launch the main net you will also have a conflux coin I'm guessing it's going to be used for transactions can you talk a little bit more about that coin and how

it fits into the ecosystem right as for a powa so all of our clients need to be mined right after the main at launch that's the part of it that's part of the job we need to work on right now we will we would approach to you know miners before the minute long to encourage them to mind-to-mind pontiff's right after the minute is launched we do have we

don't have a certain amount of place like pre that pre my coins locked up in the genus block but the first release is three months after the minute one minute launch that's good to know and yeah and so the and we do we work for now we are running a funky program to encourage you know for the bounty program is to basically increase the engagement of the

community as well as to engage with the developers at this stage for the monthly program where we're giving well they were giving away a small contract bill contest now which is called sense 20 this sense coin will be one to one swap two main act minute where once punched okay good to know and in the meanwhile before the maintenance is currently what are you

guys mainly looking for in terms of strategic partners more team members more developers or more bounty hunters well I would say all of that but right now we're trying to push forward a tax ecosystem decentralizes changed ecosystem contract seems to take the lead to form a strategy centralized exchange Alliance where conference will act as a technical solution like one layer

technical solution we're not putting our own decentralizes change that but with the with the media outstanding performance of context we believe you know we can contribute in the tax ecosystem development we do see you know that's would be a direction in the whole block trend filter rather than the centralized exchange and we want to

upgrade the overall performance and user user experience of peace and crisis change so yeah to that sound we're we're looking for a decentralized exchange I told in any custodian institution that would be that would like to be part of the these stats Alliance apart from that we're very actively engaging with all kinds of

developers plots and developers and try to you know encourage any sanctum to migrate to a complex or try and also where we're getting in touch with miners as well so yeah that's basically our major directions for now and if developers are looking to learn more information or see like a development kit or people are just looking to follow

along in the lead up to the main net what is the best way for them to reach out and to find more information right are the official website basically includes all kinds of information of the latest conference programs that includes people address developer documentation and you know like ati asking me all kinds of developer to kick and our

latest paper so I'm not sure what is the best way to share our official website it's oops I can leave the links in the description box below for you right problem either yeah sure okay awesome well that's all the time that we have for the interview but I really appreciate you taking the time to

talk about conflux and all the bests in the lead up to the main net and let's follow up in the near future sure thank you so much nice then thank you
