How these numbers work
Fear and greed index. A 0 to 100 score published daily by Alternative.me that blends volatility, momentum and volume, social media, bitcoin dominance and search trends. Below 25 is extreme fear, above 75 is extreme greed.
Altcoin season index. Our own measure: the share of the 50 largest altcoins by market cap, excluding stablecoins and wrapped or staked tokens, that outperformed bitcoin over the past 30 days. 75 or higher is altcoin season, 25 or lower is bitcoin season. Some versions of this index use 90 days; ours uses 30 days so it reacts faster, and shows the one-year reading alongside. Data from CoinGecko, refreshed every 20 minutes.
Funding rates. Hourly rates on Hyperliquid perpetual futures, annualized by multiplying by 24 and 365.

What is bitcoin dominance?
Bitcoin dominance is bitcoin's share of the total crypto market cap. Rising dominance usually means money is rotating into bitcoin and out of altcoins; falling dominance often accompanies altcoin rallies.
Is the fear and greed index a buy or sell signal?
No. It describes mood, not value. Some investors treat extreme fear as a time to be patient buyers and extreme greed as a time to be careful, but the index can stay at extremes for weeks. This page is not investment advice.
